About Kathleen

Writer, Director, Cinematographer, Editor

My relationship with film first started back in 2013 when after secondary school I decided to defer my place in University and did a Post Leaving Cert course in Film and TV Studies in Limerick College of Further Education. I had always enjoyed studying English in secondary school and this course gave me the basic knowledge of how to write a script, how to use a camera and how to edit.

In 2014 I then took up my position in University College Cork to study Film and Screen Media. Here I became fully immersed in all aspects of filmmaking-theory, analysis, history and practical.

In my first year of the course my short script First Impressions was choosen as one of the four scripts to be produced by the course that year. The film was then presented at the Schull Fastnet Film Festival by Academy Award winning director Lenny Abrahamson.

In second year we were talken under the wing of writer/director Gerard Stembridge as our film artist in residence at the college. By the end of the year I  had written two short scripts, both of which were shortlisted in the UCC script writing competition that year and one of these scripts went on to win the overall competition.

As part of our final year project in third year, a photography project and and a short film needed to be produced. From my photography project one of my photos was chosen to appear on RTÉ as part of their weather photo competition. I also fully wrote, produced, directed and edited my short film for that year- The Experiment.
